8.1 (GR 400 293) From the junction at the Old Pound Inn, head N 150m and at Croft House, cross with care to go up tarmac drive opposite and after 20m bear L to ascend steep enclosed path for 160m to reach tarmac road. Go L and ascend 120m and where drive turns into a house entrance, continue climbing 110m. Ignore footpath on R, but bear L and follow pleasant path 800m to join MoD range fence on R. Follow 1.5Km to reach permissive path to Turn Hill and follow 500m to reach steps down to road and cross to National Trust land.
8.2 (GR 414 315) Follow clear path for 200m, stopping to admire the extensive view, and locate a stile on R. Follow the well-defined path descending steeply in places and with steps for 800m to reach metal gate, then along grassy path 100m to wooden gate by Charity Farm. Go R along road 300m to junction, then R 400m and where road bears 90 degrees L go ahead and follow 1Km crossing several gates & stiles with Old River Cary on R to reach a road. Cross and continue across 5 fields alongside the Old River Cary 1Km to reach a track to road.
8.3 (GR 435 327) Go L across Henley Bridge then R with River Cary on R 800m to unnamed bridge, then 1.4Km to Broadacre Bridge and a further 500m to a track junction at Pitney Steart Bridge. Cross junction and bear L (SP Bridleway) 200m to another junction. Bear L and continue 2Km to a track on R (watch with care). Continue 650m to where track goes 90 degrees L then 90 degrees R and continue 2.1Km to junction at Hurst.
8.4 (GR 480 329) From junction at Hurst, head N for 150m and when tarmac ends continue on track 450m to where it bends R into Lwr Marsh Farm. Go L over stile and immediately R and follow hedge 100m to gate on R Go through and follow with hedge on L 200m and where it bends sharp R cross stile and go R with hedge on R for 150m to stile. Cross and continue ahead along track 200m to metal gate and continue now on tarmac ascending gently for 500m to reach crossroads at Marshall’s Elm

Park in Somerton and catch bus to Langport and then Aller. Walk to Marshall’s Elm then bus back to Somerton.
