1 From the bus stop (GR530 195) walk 100m towards Yeovil and take the R fork (SP Chilthorne Domer(1) and R immediately into King’s Hill. Follow the road for 700m to pass the church(2) and Castle Cottages(3) then by house called Fishers Gardens take path on L (SP Public Footpath). After 100m along enclosed path cross small footbridge and continue with hedge on R 100m to cross a second footbridge, then bear slightly R 120m to reach metal gate. Do not go through gate, but take waymarked pedestrian gate on R and cross bridge. Go L, with hedge on L 150m to end of field and through field gate to next field, then immediately R 40m to corner then L 300m with hedge on R to metal gate and road. Turn L for 100m to a T-junction [1.8Km]
2 (GR531 189) Cross road bearing slightly L to an enclosed (sometimes muddy) footpath (SP A37), through woods with good views to L and after 700m reach tarmac track and after another 200m the busy A37(4). Cross with great care to Yeovil Marsh and follow the road through the village for 1Km passing church(5) to reach crossroads by tree with seat round its trunk and turn L opposite Marsh Lane (SP Broadacre Farm) [1.9Km]
3 (GR539 187) Continue for 3Km firstly on tarmac to cattle grid by farm, then becoming a grassy track. At a gate continue through an enclosed section then across fields on broad grassy track with hedge on L to reach a hard surface track, ascending gently to trees on R. At the top of the slope is a good view of RNAS Yeovilton(6). Descend gently to reach road by Drove Cottage [3.0Km]
4 (GR551 215) Turn L and follow the road for 1.2 Km into Limington. Where road bears sharp R beyond pub, go ahead into a track to R of house called Kings Croft (no SP). Follow track as it bends R then L and 200m beyond at T-junction go L on broad stony track. After 250m at metal gate on R, track becomes grassy and 80m beyond, where track bears R go ahead through waymarked gate into field keeping hedge on L 200m. Go through the gate at the end of the field and at end of the 400m long second field, go across a track and continue ahead, still with hedge on L for 300m. Cross a concrete bridge over a stream and continue ahead on a track to a T-junction. Go straight ahead through four waymarked gates. After the fourth gate, bear R along path to road by New Oakley Farm [3.5Km]
5 (GR537 201) Go L and after 200m where road bears sharp R go L into waymarked path 80m to stile on R*. Head 45 degrees L to far corner to locate bridge. Follow waymark 50m to second bridge then ahead with hedge on L to reach a track to the A37. Go R for the bus stop to Yeovil. That for Somerton is over the road [1.1Km]
* If access is blocked, continue along road 700m to reach the A37, Go L along the verge 100m with extreme care and cross to large lay-by with pavement to reach bus stop for Taunton or cross back to that for Yeovil
FOR A SHORTER WALK Distance 5.6 Km/3.5 miles
Follow to point 2 and cross the busy A37 to Yeovil Marsh. After 250m just beyond Lilac Cottage, go L down a broad grassy track to emerge in a field. With hedge/stream on L, cross two fields and then bear L to another stile and small bridge. Go round edge of field keeping hedge on R. Follow as it bears R and go through large hedge gap aiming for the buildings. Cross stile in corner and bear L to reach road at point 5
For car travellers:
There is a large lay-by on the Shepton Mallet bound side of the A37 (by the bus stop)

1 Chilthorne Domer was known as Cilterne in the Domesday Book of 1086, with the second part of the name coming from the Domer family who held one of the manors.
2 The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary has 13th Century origins and has an unusual tower.
3 Castle Cottages are early/mid - 17th Century and are attached houses with a common entrance lobby, probably built as a shared inheritance.
4 The A37 follows the route of the Roman Fosse Way linking Exeter to Lincoln via Ilchester, Bath & Leicester
5 All Saints' church, Yeovil Marsh, was erected in 1870 with a turret, with one bell.
6 RNAS Yeovilton is a large multi-role air station and is home to Navy and Army helicopters. It is manned by around 4000 personnel, both service and civilian.
